sorry still trying to work out i]how to wright it up and looking on all my externals for the pics
but basicly you need a mold of the bubble shape and a big cutout of the external size you want
then hears the hard part you need to heat the perspex up fairly evenly so it dont burn but is payable over your mold then press the outer frame to strech it over your mold let cool and hay presto a buble window you need to trim to shape

I actually thought you used compressed air and blew them out? Although I can see how your method would also work.

Here's a Download Link to a Workshop Handbook on Working with Perspex: Perspex Workshop Handbook

It explains how to Mould and Shape Perspex and the required Temperatures.

It's quite interesting reading.

If the item is small enough you can use your Oven at home.

Compressed Air is one way to Blow Bubbles so to speak. lol!

Another is to have a mould to lay it into or over.

Anyway read up and with a bit of experience like Simo you too can make something Fancy and Old School.

I'm keen to try making some Tail Light Bubbles. I just have to make the time.

Ps. See Section 9: Thermoforming.

It also gives you instructions on how to Cut, Clean and Polish Perspex.

Hi folks,

I've made quite a few over the years in all different shapes and sizes and will do some proper DIY shots and write-up next time I make some. After Disturbia is rego'd I'm going into pretty full-on production so will be making all types of side and tailgate windows in a heap of colours plus the old school shapes (teardrops, hearts etc.) plus bubble covers for Holdens, Valiants and Escorts.

I do mine with compressed air and I'll try and give you a basic overview:

- Make a base tray out of MDF and stick a hole in the middle with a fitting to let air through.
- Mark out the shape you want on a 2nd piece of mdf (trace the existing window etc.).
- Then come in 8mm from the edge right around the drawn or traced shape to give you a ledge to slip into the rubber.
- Cut out this inner shape so the template is now 8mm smaller around the edge than the original glass.
- Cover both the base tray and template in felt for the contact surfaces
- Heat the acrylic EVENLY to approx 250c so its hot enough to fall under its own weight easily but is not bubbling or distorting.
- Drop the heated acrylic onto the base tray
- Place down your template
- Clamp around the edges (quickly) jamming the three components together to make it air tight
- Apply the compressed air form the bottom
- Maintain enough pressure for the shape you want and leave to cool or use extra compressed air to gently cool from the top.
- Remove from template and mark the 8mm edge back onto the flat plastic edge from where the bubble itself starts
- Trim to suit on a bandsaw etc. and you should now have a bubble window thats the same size as your original window.

have fun
