Re: FX FJ nationals, Bathurst 2012
Cool pics Jon, never seen a wagon like that.
A lot of history with some of those old racers there.
Cheers Mark

Thanks for the pics Jon, we haven't downloaded ours yet but will load up some when we do. Top day - amazing to see so many of the first Holden's in one place, close to 170 in total. Four I saw with WA plates, one with a caravan that made the journey over.
Good day chatting to people, sorry I missed you, Q Set said he caught up with you.
Was interesting hearing the comments on our ute, some loved it others said it needed paint

Hi Neil.
I may have a picture of it.... However it really would need to be 'something special' for me to take notice and snap a picture.
As with a lot car shows based around one particular model/shape of car once you see a couple of half restored cars, it soon feels like you have seen them all.
Can only imagine the day a Sandman national comes about Yawn!
So what does 'something special' have going for it?
Cheers Jon

Re: FX FJ nationals, Bathurst 2012
Turns out I did get some picture
To be honest its not my type of car, can 100% appreciate the work involved an something the owner should be very proud of. some great engineering in the FJ. McPherson Strut front end if people missed it in the pictures.
I personally would much prefer the Ruff FX parked next to it

Hi Jon
In the the picture of the light blue engine bay do. You know
What motor that is ? Ive not seen a six with the plugs in the top of the head
Like that or the dizzy right at the rear of the motor.
It looks like a hemi style head.
I have seen duggen head on red sixes before .but nothing like this on a grey motor ?

That is a super rare Repco Highpower Cross Flow head.
They pull around $10,000 secondhand these days. That said, a reproduction of this head was release a few years ago.
What this one actually is I can't say as I wasn't there to view it live.

you can thank the speedway for a lot of that early go fast bits about 75% of historic midgets and alike use red or grays and went though a lot as well i know where there are two of the cros flow heads for a gray hanging as shed art
10,000 seems abit steep a mate of mine picked one up a year or two ago for less than half that
but then boats are cheaper near the water

Re: FX FJ nationals, Bathurst 2012
A few more to add to the thread.
A little van with a big motor. Old humpy commercial in grey undercoat was also coated in a certain amount of toughness. It had absolutely minimal interior.
Big side windowed J in cream was finished off nicely with the standard conversion to running gear.
A good mix at the show. They came from everywhere and plenty of variation and ideas if you were into early GM.
A satin black 48 with the rod influences of red steels and white walls. Thoughtfully parked next to a royal red backdrop.
The mail must get through ! In its day the FJ mail vans must have stood out amongst the pack.
This thing caught my eye. Bright green and white work as a stand out on alot of holdens. Ive never seen a humpy done in the scheme though.
Deep purple windowless done well and a driver.
Something new is always around the corner.
Classic vans towed how they should be. Vintage van buffs generally stock up the van with all period accessories. The WA FX road tripped it too. Good with a tail wind.... not sure how the Nullabor would go with a stong hhead wind with this package.
Taxi !
This didnt do much for me, but if you have the skills (or the purse), well then put it to good use..... Alot of work in it.
Old holdens never die..... they just get accessorized. If you think there is alot of extras on the outside, you needed to take a look at the interior. Maybe doing the circuits since the 80's ??
Public works van in original colour. This bloke had this van sitting for a while until he discovered it was coded as a DPW van in Orange. A bit of sanding revealed the old colour and he decided to take it back to it's standard. Apart from very basic info he has been unable to find any more info about these work vans. Nice job though. He was working on it up to the day of departure for the FJ/X Nats so it was its first showing.
