Checkmate's van

Post  The Zodiac on Sun Dec 06 2009, 22:26

Hey guys here's some pictures of my van.
Im not the original builder of it, just the guy that owns it now is will finish rebuilding it one day maybe.
John Roach was the original builder of the van, he spent heaps on it and done loads and loads of work to it. it won the 1st official Australian Van Nats! Woohoo. Laughing
Dave Fernance bought the shell of John and put a heap more work into it, and came 3rd at the van nats with it when he put his chassis under it. After a heap more owners, some careful, some not. Crying or Very sad I tracked her down and bought her!

Originally it was a 1974 Mandarin Red HJ Sandman, 308, 4 speed. Now its a 1972 HQ! Which as anyone in the know will tell you is heaps better! Cool

Wheels looked good back then and a HJ chassis would still be o.k. as it's still pre-pollution.

Yeah he sunk a small fortune into it, over 35K in '82! But gees image what a jaw dropper it would've been back then. Shocked Pretty amazing achievement for a 23 year old bloke.
