Engine swap to non general motors product

Post  master6 on Fri 25 Dec 2015, 8:35 am

Hey, it is christmas day, so be kind to me.

Is it a deviant thought to whisper 'would a Ford engine be a good transplant into a Holden?"

I have never understood the apparent reluctance to use an engine from another maker.

What do you think?

Wizard - HJ Holden = 429 Big Block Ford
Alley Cat - HJ Holden = V12 Jaguar

So what are your thoughts? 250 Crossflow in a HG?
Or do you have bigger plans?

A bloke I knew was running a 351 Clevo in a HQ Sedan for quite a while.

I have been working on my HG van project for almost exactly 2 years Smooth, and I will keep going with the plan to put it on the road with a 186 or 202, as I am keen to drive it.
I'm thinking beyond that point. I will need another project.
I wonder whether there is another engine that is common, cheap , can be purchased in good condition, and will fit the engine bay, cross member, and standard steering gear of the HG.
You have picked me in one; yes, I was wondering about a falcon 6, but have not even peeped at one yet to research sump shape.

Would that require sump modification?

It's a well and tested conversion.

There has been all sorts of engine swaps over the years,The one's Smooth has mentioned
Plus I have seen a 13b rotary in a Gmh ,351 into Datsun,289/302 into a beetle, 350 chev into a Porsche & a cosworth seiarra motor in all things a Sigma. My own father-in-law even ran a ford 221 in a TF MG until he got a nasty letter from the Rita.
So running a larger displacement ,more. Plentiful engine would not be a problem except to the purest Holden fanatic..

Back in the early 80s I dropped a 265 Hemi into my LC Torana I was also drag racing so more bang for buck,I also went with a 440 Chrysler in my LX drag car in the early 90s same reason as the LC,a mate of mine mid mounted a 351 Cleveland in a Datsun Homer Van and a mate bought a XW falcon with a 307 chev in it.
They have been doingthis since hot rodding and customising began and my attitude is if it can be done do it who care's what the purist think.

Regards Tony.
