Carby 161 change to 202

Post  master6 on Mon 07 Aug 2017, 4:20 pm

My HG van has a red 202 engine fitted with a 161 inlet manifold and carb. I am thinking of obtaining 202 items. Is the 202 carb controlled by the Hg style linkage, or is it cable operated?

You could get the 161 carbies jetted up for the 202 .But the only thing that would hold it back
is that the 161 carb will not flow enough air (cfm) for the 202ci.
OR
Adapt the 202 carb to the HG linkage.

Two questions please:-
Is the 202 carb cable operated?

Does the butterfly shaft in the 202 carb run north south, or east west?

and a third, does a 202 carb flow more air than a 186 carb?

Not 100% familar with the 202 but Hq ran a mechanical linkage and
in the later models they ran a cable set up .
With the butterfly shaft running nth/Sth from memory..
And with the 202 carb you would think it would flow more air as the cubes are bigger and it would need more air..
The formula for working out air flow is easy ...Cubic inches x
Max rpm Divided by
3456 = cfm needed.
