look what i dug up
at home we have been upgrading the power box so i can run 15 amp power in the garage mostly for a welder
in doing so i need to run new cables into the garage this meaning i needed to dig a trench accross the lawn
while digging the trench i hit this
from what i can tell its an old brake drum it was about 200 300 mm under the lawn and the lawn is still at its original height from the build date back in the 60s
so what have you found while digging ?

Dean, here is what has been keeping us busy in the back yard
Funny one we got were; Rootpills & Vegetable Painkiller (the neighbour suggested it might have been Kava).

Re: look what i dug up
that a fantastic collection/find id fill them with some coloured water and put them on a window sill in the sun
its funny that you mentioned kava i noticed that they are selling it in bottle shops now ever thing old is new
but thats the good thing about glass it dose not rust but i don't think it would have been as forgiving with a direct blow to it with an axe like the brake drum was mind you it took a good chunk out of the axe face
i cleaned the drum up a bit there isnt enough to tell what it was off and i have half buried it next to the old porky pig fire and the concrete FJ pot plant

I must say it is amazing what one finds when digging in their own Backyard Dean.
As long as there are no Bodies all is good.
That's a very nice Bottle Collection there Hayley.
Deano certainly gets serious when he's digging a Hole! Quite a nice little Goldmine.

Very funny stuff....
Too far a walk from the house tho for a hills hoist!
The story goes..... We plant trees every year so Dno was walking around with the shovel looking for spots to put trees and there has always been a dip in that spot so always the digger Dno put his shovel under a rock and prized it out. Then went to do the next rock and it disappeared and went 'sploosh' and then the dirt started to sink so he got off quick smart. After a bit more of a prod the rest fell in and we were left with this.
Then after a bit of digging.... this
There is a few wells close by and they are all circular. We are not far as the crow flys from old mining area so we are thinking it might be a mine shaft. Weird shape - bath tub shape. Anyone have any ideas?? We are down about 4/5 meters now and the walls are chipped and have foot holes around it so they could climb out. Strange. Bottles are around 1920's so far - pity they were not older! The PVC we put down and jiggled as far as we could, it is 5m and seems to have hit the bottom so might not be that exciting.

Re: look what i dug up

Re: look what i dug up
If you hadn't said anything about mines I would have suggested a well. Especially if it stopped at that depth. If you have hit the bottom check the sides they might have turned and dug across.
