Re: diamond tuck pleating.
what happened to the good old days of doing it yourself
But if you want to buy in fine and look like everyone else, go ahead. But doing it yourself - you choose fabrics, depth of the foam and so on. You have much more choice plus you determine the pitch of the pattern and the tuck.
Good luck

Re: diamond tuck pleating.
OK... I got curious as to how to do it... so I did a bit of a search and found this tutorial on another site.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?s=08f9e54c17ade0846e4f0ba3c83a98b3&t=366975
The "zodiac/metal flake" example really stands out.
Hope this helps.

Re: diamond tuck pleating.
I sent a series of instructions to imperfection on how to do.
Not hard once you know how. Takes time and care.

Looks easy - but I would suggest you try somke dummy panels in a real cheap material before you try.
You have to decide how many buttons within a defined area.
You glue your foam on a backing board.
you do a grid on foam where you want your buttons
You get a deep 1" hole saw and you then cut thru the foam - and the tip of the drill bit thru the board. Do not cut all the way thru.
Your fabric - flip it over to the underside and so the same grid double size. The ratio of the material grid to foam grid comes doen to thickness of your foam. My foam from memory was about 3". But I did this over 25 years ago.
You get buttons made with two prongs on the back - buttons covered in same fabric.
You push the button thru the fabric where you have made your mark and down the hole in the foam.
You push it all the way to the bottom, on the back of the board, you then flatten the prongs. when you do them all - run a staple gun to lock the prongs.
You progressivley fold the fabric as it naturally creates a pleat - make sure you get the fabric running the right way.
try on dummy panely and differ the fabric grid until you get the look you are after.
the edge of the board - you ensure your folds continue over the adge - staple gun down.
hope of some help. I did all my trim. Zodiac is progessively adding my photos. Have a look at the interior when it gets posted.

Re: diamond tuck pleating.
Will definitely take those tips on board, especially re the diamond pattern sizing differences between the material and backing board.
