Re: Victorian State Van Titles 2011 - In Pictures
First off, Thanks for the pics and write ups all... I couldn't get there and feel that I missed a great day. (Also the Vid was a top idea... thanks HQVAN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3rNGIyVE2s)
I am hoping to make my van show worthy... whether I win awards or not doesn't mater. But after reading James response... a thought stuck in my head. What if someone bought a Millennium van off the showroom floor... pushed it into a truck and dropped it off at a show??? How could it loose with the current judging system???
I don't have an answer to how to change the judging system... but can understand the frustrations of the participants and spectators.
But Judging issues aside... I'm happy that there was a good turnout and that I really need to put in a huge effort to get my van to show standard More pics... More pics!

The Judging, well i am not going to get into any debate or stick up for any one about the weekend. I thought the top 6 was pretty much correct but then after that there were a few discrepancies if you ask me... ...I listen to comments of people after the show and take note and listen also to their questions and then i put these to those in charge. Usually i get very good answers back but i like to ask from looking at the results from different points of view even if they are not my belief, i still ask... ...It is really hard to explain to people in writting how and why some vehicles score well over others without having them side by side and then not upsetting the owners... ...If you want to do mods you have to be spot on, but so does the factory escort guard. Having the mods will only give points to the van if there is a catagory for modified, if there is no catagory then they get judged as if they are both factory. You can think this is unfair but it works both ways, do we discriminate against some one who has and likes the factory look or against the guy who likes the flares or different lights etc. You cant seperate them these days unlike in the 70's where mods gave extra points. Unfortunately it is just like political correctness. Personally i wish there was ways around this but there really isnt unless there is a modified section. but the mods probably do not count towards the over all score, just like murals do not count towards extra points, they are a seperate catagory... ...Lastly, my advise is, unless you are building a van to show and win trophies, never go to a show expecting to win smething...

Show standard, what is it? Is it to a standard you are happy with and like to show people or is it show quality? To me, if you have spent the time on it to improve its finish from standard then it is show standard, remember people like different things. I would not call my van show quality but it is show standard.
I remember going to the Vic Hot Rod show when Street Legal and Jade were there side by side. People came up to Street and were mezmerized by all the chrome, they stood there staring, then they looked at Jade and a completely differet look came on their face because it was more relatable and useable. As much as Jade's engine bay is awsome, it is show standard compared to show quality with Street, but people looked longer at Jade's engine bay.
As for the millenium vans on the weekend, they were mostly all detatailed better than factory, and that is the same at the van nats, thats why they do score well.
As for Bluey's ute against Ron's, well all i can say is at least they wern't victorian judges, so it looks like judging all over needs to be looked at. hehe

Perhaps a new thread on judging might be in order.
Agreed Troy, can a moderator please move the judging debate part of this thread to a new one? A lot of new members are going to be coming on here to check the pics, and probably don't need the politics.

Was funny as and once he had hold of it no one was getting it!!! He was a very well behaved little man, even if it took a few bribes to keep him occupied. Did spiderman make it home Josh or fall asleep 10 minutes after you left??
Scotty use to do the same thing at presentations, it's like a junior "smash and grab", head down, flat out, grab trophy, shake hand(if they were lucky! ) and run!
The little fellas make it so much more enjoyable and worthwhile.
Cheers Rob

Yeah the little bloke was passed out before we hit the freeway. Good excuse to get to spend a bit of time with him.
As for the dash for cash, no photo session for him!!
Took a few bribes over the day. I spose when ya 4 there is only so many cars you can look at. Especially when the cars are at a kids entertainment park.

I agree James but I just word it slightly different, you call it show standard and I call it a daily driver/neat streeter.
My trusty WB was as nice as a lot of the vans on display on the weekend and it's my daily driver/work vehicle.
I'm just building my vans to keep me happy, I'm not real worried about what other people think of them.
Cheers Rob

I took a bunch of photos but they have to go to the Custom Utes and Vans mag, (now called Brute Utes and Vans). When i decide what photos to send i will post the others here soon.
Rob, i class neat street as show standard as well, like u said, its just the wording. There are way better vans than mine that are every day streeters, i just think if you have a well presented van then it is worthy to be "shown" so there for show standard.

Re: Victorian State Van Titles 2011 - In Pictures
Looks to have been a great event and its a shame that the judging issues and politics with any show or club always become such a problem. A nice couple in the next street over are always trying to talk me into joining the local Van Club here, but I've butted heads with three of their members, two of whom I've never met in person! I try and keep things pretty low key and avoid getting sucked into whirlpools of drama, but I'll stick up for myself too if someone wants to have a dig at me especially when they've never even met me or know me.
It pretty much sealed the deal for me in that I don't want to be involved anywhere but with Majestics, and I don't think I'll ever enter Disturbia to be judged at any Van Shows. It just seems like a lot of hairpulling over things that I really don't want to deal with.
As for me, I think Josh's FJ is outstanding in all counts and is an absolute credit to you mate
have fun

Thank You for sharing your Great Photos Guys and a special "Thank You" to Karl for his Slide Show!
It is always interesting to see other people's perspectives.
I'll post up some photos from a different perspective, that hopefully don'e repeat any that have already been posted up.
