GETTING A SOFT-ON.
OK I've got a Gen-Y living at home, I believe he's 17 and yes, he's lazy. But my biggest issue are these ridiculous cars they are selling to young people that park themselves, stop themselves, make phonecalls, talk to you, distract you and probably end up killing you.
Tally-Ho, I'm a bit old but when I was growing up automatics were for girls. This next generation are not going to be able to drive anything that requires thought or skill and all going to plan, we'll end up with a new breed of brain dead drivers called George Jetsons to compete with on the black stuff - a scarey thought.
Who do I blame? manufacturers, society, America, or the Internet.
Signed,
Concerned Parent.
cheers,
bish.

Re: GETTING A SOFT-ON.
Good luck with the 17 year old raised 3 boys youngest 22 they are all different .
As for the cars modern engineering thinking is to make it easier and safer for all requiring less skill .
Yes the Jetson age is coming and most kids don't understand the privilege of having a licence but think back to when you were 18 did you truly understand the responsibility of driving I didn't (what a fun time that was ).
The only thing was my HG van was my pride and joy most modern kids don't seem to have that connection with their car . My 30 year old son has found it with a WB van the other 2 are still working it out .
Good luck .

VIAGRA???...
Yeah, I know what you mean mate, most teenagers these days would be in huge trouble in an emergency situation, the big problem that the government is failing to tackle is good driver education. No matter how many inbuilt "safety" features these new cars have, nothing compensates for the lack of awareness and courtesy that a lot of drivers display today. But dont gat me started, have a look at many of the taxi drivers in the bigger cities these days, they only got off the boat last week, half of them are flat out reading road signs, what hope have we got? Bloody hell I must be getting old hey, cheers Pat

Yeah "Frank" carries more NASCO accessories than any other early Holden and I have more that I haven't convinced myself to install.
Some say too many! I say, can you have too much NASCO? It's like saying you have too many Christmas decorations on your tree.

Re: GETTING A SOFT-ON.
I'd just like to attempt to restore a little of you faith in gen-Y.
I myself am a 17 year old girl who owns a WB van, it is not a "girls auto" it's a manual (Aussie 4 speed). I have so much respect and love for it and I just wanted to let you know that there are still a few young ones out there that have the old school attitude when it comes to cars.
In saying that I do know what you mean and agree, nearly everyone I know who is getting their license is planning, or hoping to buy an auto and love the idea of a car that parks its self, has emergency breaking and sensors in every direction. I mean some things are OK, like safety features (for example i do wish my van had more than just a passenger airbag), but when the cars start parking themselves that's when you really realize things have gone too far.
Anyway, that's my two cents to add to the jar.

Re: GETTING A SOFT-ON.
yay another girl on the forum....
I learnt to drive in a Datsun ute with a stick jammed on the accelerator and Dad had to run along beside while he changed into second as I wasn't fast enough to follow the stranglers in the mob he was mustering. I peered through the steering wheel while standing on tippy toes, only just remember it so I would have been 4ish.
Tess will be learning in a HQ! She will have her pick of auto or manual. She can already steer and change gears and she just turned two! She has hope!

Re: GETTING A SOFT-ON.
Airbags are only required when you drive "soft" cars, steel cars didn't require them.

Re: GETTING A SOFT-ON.
When our daughter got her licence she had an old Laser. When she was out and about we
would always worry, especially if it was raining or stormy or she was late. The best thing we did was get her into a new car, reliable, safe and roadside assistance so all of us can have peace of mind.

Re: GETTING A SOFT-ON.
Kids and their toys.
As they get older they get more expensive.
Some kids dont grow up they just get older.

Re: GETTING A SOFT-ON.
Wow, I just got through this post and have realized one main thing you all have in common besides the kids........................ Alzheimer's. I can still remember doing some pretty stupid Woopsie on the roads back in the day all in the name off fun. I don't think our kids are much different now, just that theirs more of them on the road than when we drove. Yes the manufacturers have taken the thinking out of driving but with the amount of people on the road now days they need too, for all those people who can't drive and I'm not just talking about Asians either. Think about it, 35 years ago I had a LH Torana 3 on the tree drum brakes and no power anything, nothin else to do but steer stop and go with the occasional gear change now add a mobile phone, Ipod, Ipad, DVD, dark tinted windows an extra 200kw, LSD, 6 speed and bigger brakes and I'm sure things would have been different. That is if we were all good law abiding drivers !
my advice is simple get them in a cart to learn to steer and brake, then get them in a bush basher to see what happens when you loose it, were its better to spin out in a paddock than on a road with all sorts of hazards to hit.

Re: GETTING A SOFT-ON.
None of us have forgotton what we have done when we were younger, the point been made is that the manafacture is making life to easy the basic's should still be there you drive the car not the car drive you.Unfortunatly there are clowns out there who still drive like they did when they were in their teens.

Re: GETTING A SOFT-ON.
after having newer cars they dont make em like they used too! hahaha. wiring issues jeez LOL!! autos are not for girls either id be driving manual if i could, stupid way it worked out im bound to auto now for life. i think some people jsut cannot drive no matter what they have. and newercars do seem to make it very easy to do stupid stuff, then again they dont with their traction control etc, which i think is actually mroe dangerous in some instances. stuff having a car that parks itself. terminator stuff bound to happen right there haha! some just dont share the same driving passion as we do.
i need to actually read this thread properly though i just skimmed through may have missed the point of what its about.
