'Morning Of The Earth' Promotion
I was invited to be part of a promotion with the van on the weekend. It was to promote the movie/concert event 'Morning of the Earth' at the dromana drive-in.
'Morning Of The Earth' is a classic aussie surf film that was first released in 1972, it was a innovative movie for its time, setting the standard for surf films that followed, combining music of the era with vision of surfers on some of the worlds great surf breaks.
The promotion involved me and a couple of other guys in Sandmans (Ian and Rob) driving around the back beaches of the mornington peninsula generating interest in the event, it was a great day and an awesome cruise. We had plenty of people checking out the vans, and finished our cruise parked out the front of a pub in Sorrento right on the foreshore. We then spent a couple of hours talking vans enjoying some food and drinks in the sun.
Here are a few shots from the day:
The movie/concert will be touring Australia. You can find details here: http://www.morningoftheearth.com/

Dude... CONGRATS!
Seeing those Vans reminds me that a van doesn't need crazy mods to be a striking head turner.
Sandmans are cool... and I love the HX/HZ style... but your van stands out. If I can't get away with the mods I have planned for mine... I'd be more than satisfied if it looks anywhere near as good as yours.
Must have felt awesome being part of that event on the weekend.
I'll check out that link. Before I bought my first van... my hair was almost blonde from the amount of time I spent at the beach

Re: 'Morning Of The Earth' Promotion
Thanks for the kind words Jason!
It was an awesome day to be a part of, I really enjoyed the cruise with the other guys. We would do drive bys of cafes and alfresco dining places and have every head turned our direction, it was a real buzz!
When we were parked we constantly had people coming up to have a look and a chat, it was a great day.

Thanks Denis, it was a great feeling getting everyone's attention, my head probably did swell a bit!
Would have liked to have gone to Bathurst but it is a bit close to the van-in in Albury. Hopefully I will be able to see your van one day, maybe caboolture 2013?

Re: 'Morning Of The Earth' Promotion
on the invite Karl.
Your Van and the 2 Sandmans look absolutely Fantastic together.
I'm pleased that it turned out to be everything you were hoping for.
Great to see the Dream being kept alive and the enthusiasm that you have in promoting MV.

Cheers Rusty!
My only disappointment with the day was the tossbag beemer driver who didn't have the common sense to move his 4wd so the all the vans could be parked together at the pub.

Re: 'Morning Of The Earth' Promotion
Here are some shots from the Morning of the Earth show at the Regent theatre on friday night.
And what an awesome night! Had a really good time, great show, great music, great company.
Premium parking, and a real VIP treatment!
Heaps of comments from patrons and passersby on the vans, people were really excited by them, alot of older guys and girls reliving their youth seeing them. With all the positive comments it was hard to wipe the smile of my face!
Even driving through the cbd people would stop and stare as we drove past, a couple of guys stopped in the middle of a pedestrian crossing to give us the thumbs up! On the way out of the cbd after the show there was a yell of 'PANO!' as were driving through the city!
I was not expecting to be asked to be part of the TV live cross, that really excited the kids sitting at home watching. The bonus was I got to keep the singlet that they got me to wear!
The people milling around the vans all night was incredible, there were heaps taking photos and getting pics taken standing beside them. The crowd hang around for a good half hour after the show checking them out.
It was about this time that the battery died in my phone so I couldn't get any more shots. Ian, who owns the orange sandman took a heap more that I will add to this this later.

See... This is what I mean...
If it were 3 Limo's parked there... people might look to see who was getting out of them...
BUT... With 3 Top notch Vans there... You were lucky not have caused multiple car pile-ups with all the rubber necking that they would have attracted.
I am Truly... (Also very when it comes to Vehicles)
