the story of my torana (mr5000) from start to now

gday guys my names ryan i have a van but thats awaiting a much needed resto besides im spending plenty enough money at the moment on my torana i bought it as a 17year old when i was doing my mechanics apprenticeship 1977 4 door lx bench seat with a 173 i picked it up from chadstone and didnt touch it for 3 weeks copped chicken box the day i was to pick it up


anyway it had a bit of rust so new doors nose cone ect had to go on

then off to the painters to get flares fitted and some warpaint the guy who painted it did a Woopsie job i was young n naieve got taken for a ride looked the goods till about 3 months down the track paint went all buggerd and still is i got rear ended also just after i got the paint done i was fuming and if it wasnt for my mates who were with me i probably would have ended up in the slammer for murdering the spaced out c(*khead who hit me anyways after fighting with insurance(racv) i got jack Woopsie and had to fix it myself which was a massive financial blow

anyway i got it all fixed and got sick of the 173 so i got hold of a red pre poll 253 and tickeled the heads upa nd slapped a nice cam in and away i went the trimatic i put behind it didnt last to long for some unknown reason haha sop i rebuilt a m20 and put that in and drove it for 12 months as a daily once it was retired from daily suties i went along to the gmh torana forum drag day and i was hooked only ran 16.4 but was great fun

another few years went on and i got offered a 308 for a price too good to refuse i pulled it to bits to find a cracked piston bores were still good so opted for some flat tops ueds the top end from the 253 and the cam and lifters and put that in



i race it with the 308 and pulled a 14.4 only a poofteenth of my mate who i had been Woopsie the past 12 months that i was going to beat him(him convinced i was still running a 253)

anyway shortly after racing i decidecd to do some rust repair under the cowl panel




once i had that sorted i broke down a few times and had to get the dizzy redone while i was at it i installed a msd blaster coil and 6al and got tired of blowing up banjos so i put a 9 inch in that only lasted 2 months before i blew that up and what do you no a snowball effect happend ended up goign all out on the diff 3.5 motive gears strange pronodular iron case strand billet alloy pinion support strange chromemoly yoke moser 31 spline axles and a detroit tru trac locker

ive fitted a few guages and stuff to keep an eye on things havent raced it but went to my car clubs skid pan day and had a ball



i fitted some convo pros and big rubber last week its going back on the dyno on the 17th then racing on the 25th hoping to crack the 13s then next on the list to do is fix the bumper do interior then get started on the vn headed 355 ive been colecting bits for hoping to get 400hp out of it at the treads
