How long should a compressor hold pressure?
My compressor leaks from 130psi to nil in a few hours. Is this normal?

How long should a compressor hold pressure ?
Hey Master 6, To the best of my knowledge they all eventually lose pressure in the the storage tank, even the very expensive professional units.I believe purposely done so they can't be potentially be left unattended for long periods under full pressure and pose a possible safety risk. I usually mostly or completely discharge mine and switch the unit off so it does not cycle if I am Not going to be there for an hour or more but then I am a Safety first kind of guy. It is also very important to make sure there is no water build up in your air tank, which they all do because when air is compressed the water in the air is condensed and builds up in the tank And if left there starts coming out of your gun when painting etc, it will eventually ruin your air tools, rust out the tank and stuff up numerous paint jobs etc. Refer to your owners manual for your compressor how to carry out that draining procedure and other safety or maintenance. I bought my first compressor in about 1974 and got rid of it in 2011because it was getting tired the damn thing only lasted for 37 years , I hope this helps you,Cheers John.

Re: How long should a compressor hold pressure?
hi, try running your compressor up to full pressure then turn it off at the switch then listen for any air leaking out, it usually is at hose ends or fittings, mine will hold air for days if i forget to drain it.
another tip is i have my air hose going from the water trap to the roof of the garage to slow down the chance of water getting thru and i have an inline water trap as well, hope this helps
cheers andrew
