New HQ guards
Not sure if you guys have been informed but rare spares will soon be releasing new reproduction front guards for HQ's, there will be no release for hj - hz from what they told me. They said the quality will match the original and they will retail for $850 each. Not sure if this includes GTS guards.

Re: New HQ guards
When I started rebuilding my van
I found a place in brisvagas that where trialing
h--wb front doors but had not put them into
Production yet.
Retail price was going to be around 800.
Production yet was to start about october 2009/10 I think :: it was.

Re: New HQ guards
Good news considering the HQ racers have killed a mountain of good bits.

Re: New HQ guards
Just seems to be the going rate for reproduction panels. All the Torana, Monaro and EH panels seem to be the one price.0488TINTER wrote:is it just me or is $850 a little on the steep side?
All also seem to be coming from the one supplier and it's not Rare Spares (although they do re-sell and distribute).

Re: New HQ guards
Yeah they said it costs $200,000 to make the die so thats why they won't be releasing hj - wb guards but at 850 a piece they'd make the money pretty quick.
$1200 for a new complete fibreglass front
$1700 for a pair of steel guards
what would you choose....

Re: New HQ guards
Steel... Got steel guards on all my old rust buckets that have been on there for more than 40 years... Some 50 years.
So given that, a new set of steel guards should out live my driving days.
Like to see a fiber glass front live the same amount of years!
Cheers Jon

Re: New HQ guards
all the rare repo stuff sells for close to $1000 yet repo tailgates are $109 - HUGE price difference
i can even get a repo guard for a 2002 Jeeo for $130 - ow is the HQ one $600+ more??
Also couldnt work out how WB tail lights were $100 ea and all of a sudden they dropped to $50
some serious profit in them parts

All comes back to supply and demand.
Back in the 70's a gaurds would cost say 150 but
There where a million. Hq's .
How many are around today.

Re: New HQ guards
I think also companies changing suppliers would have an impact on prices going up or down. I know from dealing with allcrashparts the price of a tailgate went up and down alot. They used to be around the $220 mark but i can get one now for $89. They also sold new HJ - HZ complete corner lights for $15 each but have stopped producing those for some reason, so all thats left is to pay the $45 each that other companies like Rare Spares want. I can still get a New reproduction HZ grill for $25 new but the variety of reproduction parts are slowly diminishing

Re: New HQ guards
yeah, it's a sad state.
We need the people wh started selling the WB tail lights for $50 to source panels - that would shake things up

Re: New HQ guards
Them after market tail gates a rubbish! There is a reason they are so cheap.
Up to a $1000 a panel seems good value if it bolts straight on and only prep for paint required.
Got a panel beater to do any work to a rusty dented panel lately? Factor in the price you think a good second hand panel is. Get someone to straighten it out, cut rust out and get it to the stage it's ready for paint prep. Makes $800 seem like good value after all...

Re: New HQ guards
i agree they are rubbish but with the carelessness of other drivers, and those who love to throw shopping trolleys around i really wouldn't want to spend a whole afternoon repairing a few dints or sourcing out another genuine and straight tailgate when i can pick up a non gen that looks the parts and is cheap.

Re: New HQ guards
I think it's worth it to buy a pair for spares. When the sales drop off in a few years they will stop making them
and the ones left will cost a fortune especially if you need one urgent.

You wouldn't bother, the $800 would be much cheaperJonny James wrote:Get someone to straighten it out, cut rust out and get it to the stage it's ready for paint prep. Makes $800 seem like good value after all...

Makes sense Phil, really comes back to the old if you want something bad enough you'll pay for it.

Re: New HQ guards
My Corvette came out with two red tailights and I needed to get a pair of orange ones
for the indicators.I didn't rush because a lot of places had them for $80.00 each. The demand
dropped off and they stopped making them and the suppliers bought up the last of the stock.
The last ones are going for around $450.00 each ,if you can find them.I managed to get new
pair on Evilbay for $200.00.Lucky.
The guards may be expensive now,but they won't be making them forever.

Re: New HQ guards
spoke to rarespares again when i picked up some new tailshaft u bolts. they are remaking the HQ GTS guards initially, he said they will be making standard gaurds aswell. Also they are making new nosecones, not sure if they are single or twin (i forgot to ask). They have made a nosecone already but they are remaking it due to it not giving a factory fit.
Will keep you guys posted, going back this week for more goodies
