Painting centre console Empty Painting centre console

Hi everyone,

I hope this topic hasn't been covered elsewhere, I did look in technical tips, but can anyone tell me the best paint to use to paint the centre console? Also what prep should I do apart from making sure it's clean?

Thanks guys

Hey John

I have found the best thing for cleaning interior plastics and vinyl is Permatex fast orange hand cleaner, might sound strange I know, but this stuff has amazing results and the pumice when used with a small brush (there is one that comes with it) or an old toothbrush is excellent at getting the dirt out of the grain of the plastics.

I would then give it a good wipe down with some prepsol to get rid of any residual cleaner and hit it with a good couple of coats of VHT vinyl die. Be mindful that as good as this paint is, it will still require touch ups after a period of time in high traffic areas.

Agree 100%.

The most important thing is GETTING IT CLEAN!!!!!

I've used enamel primer and top coat with a lot of success, but you need to leave it for a long time (weeks) before touching it as it doesn't cure for ages. When it does it's pretty tough though.

Thanks Guys. I'll give it a go. Figure it's easier to put in new console rather than try re model the one in it. In fact I might use the old one to practice on.

Mully,I painted a console for a mate not long ago and what I used been plastic is flexi primer then black plastic bumper paint, the reason I used it as it is harder wearing is it is for exterior and you will not have to touch it up as much,I have also used sugersoap to clean it and then wax and grease tack rag it and off you go.

Regards Tony.

Painting centre console Empty BEST PLASTIC PAINTS

Post  FULYSIKCOUPE Wed 04 Sep 2013, 6:27 pm

Best plastic paint on the market is KRLON brand..No primer needed, dries quickly and extremely durable. Used it on Coupe and Panelvan, and no wear marks visible in 4yrs. As long as the surface is prepped properly, it will last almost forever.

Common denominator to all the comments.......

PREPARATION!

I like the bumper paint idea, that stuff is pretty tough. I assume it's tintable so you can get a good colour match with your other interior plastics. Or I guess you could paint everything and get a match that way.

Good thread this one..... some good ideas I hadn't considered before. thumbsup
