chev dually
last year I was getting bored with my ute and a mate was pushing to buy it so I relented and sold it.
that night I jumped on ebay looking for something different and spotted this.
well something clicked and I kept going back to it and drooling over the 80s cool so after a day or so I got on the phone and got some more info and pics and jumped in the crewman and did a midnight run to Melbourne

Re: chev dually
well with a trade plate, open headers, some creative wiring and on the fly repairs we hit the road and made it back to Sydney just as the sun came up. some how an open headered big block with no 2nd gear that had not been driven since 1998 made the run back with no police interference and no tow truck

Re: chev dually
wait for the pics of the other one rusty its even more left field
I had to get it more practical so out came the odd 4speed auto (200r4 from a vette) and in went a BnM t400 and 3grand stally (I know bad idea but its what I had) that was taking up space in the shed ive never been a fan of beige so the stripes were next on the list
these were after its first legit shakedown run to the hunter valley and back

Re: chev dually
then I discovered that one simply doesn't just own 2 chevs theres apparently room for more so my wife decided she wanted 1 too and as I had found out that my big dually is a very rare animal even in the states... almost all have been raided for there interiors and every one chopps em up and slams them I want to keep it cowboy spec to be different. I dragged out a very rusty parts truck I brought a whyle back and started another one as the body was rs I got lucky and found a mint cab in Gosford dragged it home and pulled the old cab from the chassis
the wife wants this one lifted and it will be for a whyle but I have a full airbag kit and notch kit for the future and with its next edition it will be the onley single cab in the country like this

Re: chev dually
the reason for the crappy top end and wiring is this
and this came too
just to add to my workload
also went hi tech with the alloy tray widening to cover the tyres again just for rego

Re: chev dually
so it passed rego a few weeks ago now the real fun begins the stars have aligned and ive found the next major piece to complete the main body of the truck and make it different this is what im aming to end up with
then something like this in the future
the tpi injection will go on in the next few weeks then it should be a super reliable cruiser for the wife.
we have been driving the wheels off my other dually and the paint and pinstriping is finished but haven't uploaded any new pics yet

Re: chev dually
yep have been a fan of farm truck for a whyle but sadly the 540 dart combo in the box is destined into my apprentices hq tonner as its current v6 don't cut the mustard after a ride in the dually
on the plus side he did buy a 454 to start with but on pulldown it was to good to gut n stroke so its gone under the bench for a rainy day hence the all out DART/SCAT/AFR combo came about instead. anyway the Camaros 468 scares the missus so we will stick with the tpi 383 combo for now with a swap to a t5 to eat some miles till she mans up
by the way if any one wants a small block tunnel ram efi set up cheap pm me as I think the tpi setup will suit her more (the rams set up to run with all vn 5.0l gear)
heres some more pics of the big dually with the bordello interior the back seat even folds flat into a double bed
swivelling captains chairs for upscale boating
and the kids fathers day present confederate mudflaps cause that's how we roll

Re: chev dually
there easy for the common wearing parts rob (idler arms/ball joints/shocks/engine ect) but everything else is a battle.
the onley choices are trawling ebay with lots of luck and diving on anything the second it comes up. this is a problem made worse by the fact they are not normaly listed under chev truck eg thay are c10/c20/c30/k20/Silverado/dually/blazer..... the list goes on and most of the time you have to buy the whole truck and its always in vic or qld.
or shipping in horrible chinese copys of parts from the states and that's for the boring base model stuff.
note the painted surround
if you need stuff like chrome trim its nearly impossible (holden sold base model stuff here so no bling) you have to find an import being parted out and good stuff is rare and not cheap even in the states.
the other bad part is if you need something now like a tub the local importers prices are huge (theres 2 rusty ones on ebay for $2500 each) but if your willing to wait for the luck of ebay things come up 6months search and $600 for my white tub and $700 for the black tub.

progress
painted the tub , fitted it then started laying out the trim
then painted the blackout in phantom metallic and decided to paint the alloy trim on so masked it out and shot it

Re: chev dually
well its been a been a while since ive updated this but life gets in the road sometimes.
anyway the trucks out and about and the wife is doing the school run/work/shopping in it the plan was to have the fuel injection on and sorted by now but a more pressing issue is the gearing in this truck is way to low to be practical 80ks at 5grand in top gear so an overdrive box comes first
2in adapters to widen the rear track, fitted a split window ,then got sick of tripping over the rollbar so that went in aswell
brought and stripped a vr v8 over the weekend for its t5 gearbox to replace the munci so now the challenge is to convert the clutch from mechanical to cable, move the shifter forward 10inchs make a new crossmember and shorten the tailshaft. on the plus side the tpi should work correctly as it requires a speed input to alter the timing so should make things easyer down the track
