VE SS UTE
Don't know why but I thought I'd put my sons ute build
D
This is something like he bought it.
09 6.0l 6 speed leather trim ,first to go where the 20x8 rims in place of a set of 22x8.5s.
Then came a set of fully adjustable coil overs to all 4 corners.
The car has been enjoyed for a short time until the typical young bloke kicked in and
the diff let go,So out it came & in went the tru- trac (problem solved)
Next he got bored with it so he stripped it down for paint
It got edged out first , then panels hi-filled then refitted for alignment, rubbed back then inthe booth for paint
While he was painting it he asked me to find him a tunnel ram for it ,just wanted it like dads,
Finding the ram & throttle bodies wasn't hard being a l98 6.0 the heads are same as an Ls3.
The major problem was that it's a drive-by-wire, he rang around and talked to many auto electricians
all have told him it couldn't be done.
But never the less I worked out a way to make it work , along with the MAF less tune and some
detailed paint work he got what he wanted
A tunnel rammed drive-by-wire ute,all he has to do now if I can talk him in it is an Amcat canopy.
Cheers to all and hope you enjoyed the read

Re: VE SS UTE
Great to read about and see the build pictures Neil.
Looks tough that ram set up (sure the cops will love it as well!)
Overcoming the issues and making it work is what sets one out from another.
You must get him to go Amcat PVC (Panel Van Conversion). That will turn the heads.
Regards, Smooth

Re: VE SS UTE
James the cops love it
He got pulled up over the x-mas break & they tried to get him
for moving parts outside the bonnet,But being drive-by-wire the ignition
was off with him jumping on the pedal ,nothing was happening .That had them stuffed.
The set up has been done in a way that the wiring and everything else will go back to factory.
Ls manifolds are very easy to change ,when you get through all the crap it's only 8 bolts,They have
a separate valley cover ,not like the early holden/ford stuff

Yep Joe
It's in 2-pac .i don't know how it's holding up to the heat.
But normally the clear goes a yellowie colour after time ,but I think you'll be hard pressed
to see it with black underneath.
.... And rubb-in the fur the wrong way is half the fun sometimes ..

Re: VE SS UTE
Great read Neil and great Pics too!
Please to read Kurt finally sorted out the Drive-by-Wire. I dare say with Dad pointing him in the right direction.
The Tunnel Ram is Awesome!
Pity the photos don't do the Paintwork Justice. Having the good fortune to have seen it in person, the colour really Pops with the Pearl/Flake over it. The Finish is outstanding.
Kurt is definitely a very Talented young Man and I'm certain will go a long way if he focuses on his future.
Please pass on my Congratulations on a Job well done.

Re: VE SS UTE
well this is pretty cool. I'm a ute bloke, but the canopy would definitely look the goods. just needs a filthy big camshaft and some nitrous now
