I typed Holden Custom 80's van into Google images to see if I could find anymore pics for our forum and stumbled across this thread on another forum.

The guy with the white Rodeo thinks it's ugly! Pretty funny coming from a guy with a 2WD stock looking rodeo(Yeehaa!) with some ugly-as wheels on it!

i'm with ED was right into vans back then but didn't go for this style BUT they were the show winners, for those that can remmber back was there ANY tastefull customs built in the mid '70's to '80's remember seeing broken hearted after it got trashed tell you what they weren't scared of bog

that is why it is called "never said out loud, if it wasn't for bog there would be no fiberglass anything, the flares , bonnet moulds ect. would look stuck on and you would see the stainless screws........

In the 70,s and 80,s Fibreglass and 2-part styling gel /BOG was king . In a lot of cars and vans of that time there was no reservation about using lots of it. Including my custom front HQ Monaro in 1980.

that's what i remember back then bbk, not many metal fabricators around willing to do vans, but my exp was with ski boats and cashy mould work after hours

Innervisions was apparently all done in steel except for the centre section of the roof spoiler.
Nothing wrong with bog, slap it in, eventually when it cracks out, grind it back and slap some more into it! Although we will try and limit it's use when we do the WB.

Even before the days of pre- fab Trans Am , Concorde front ends etc., it was a welded up frame , chicken wire or pop riveted panels covered with the basic fibreglass layering then kilo after kilo of bog. Half of or more of the bog ended on the garage floor after umpteen hours of orbitall sander mutilation just to get the basic shape, then more hours of hand shaping just to get it the way you want it to look--- before you even think about paint Thats the way it was ! Many vans weren,t even show cars , just a myriad of backyard jobs.

we used to use 2 part expanda foam shape it, then glass over it hollow out the foam , shape the glass then use that as a plug for the mould to keep sizing ect. right, then glass and bog the finished product in.

Space Invader in a pressure pack at Bunnings -- expanding foam , used to use it when I worked in the building industry. Got messy when you used too much , went every where you didn't want it to.
Then the other day at work , was discussing whether to use this stuff to pack up a propeller spinner, so jumped on google to see if we could get it in something up to around 20 Litres( Its a big spinner!) . Found it at Monster Makers with a monster price. Next Idea.
