G'day all. Name is Russ and I live on the NSW Central Coast.

Loving this forum. I'd forgotten how much I always wanted a HQ Sandman. Don't own a one, but have always wanted one - for some reason I just never took the plunge when it was time to buy a new vehicle. One of those things. Buy a car then 2 months later it hits you: "Hang on! Why the hell didn't I buy that HQ Pano?!"


Do own a few toys though. My daily driven work-horse is a '74 HQ Ute. Spirited by a tired old 202, yet still manages to get me anywhere I need to.

Then comes Angelicar (yes, I named her!). A '67 Impala. Australian Built, right-hand drive. 4 door pillarless. This is the project car. Currently sits in primer waiting to be sprayed (re: waiting for me to stop spending money on crap and start saving). Once it's sprayed I can put the few things back in their place and get her on the road where she belongs.

Then there's the weekend toy. A 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T. Have wanted one since I was a teen and finally fulfilled the dream and purchased one last year, after a year of saving and a little bit of borrowing. The US economy was in the dunny and sellers were practically giving them away so I took the plunge.


Anyways, glad to be here - and who knows, maybe you'll inspire me enough to grab that elusive Panel Van!

Great to have you on here Russ, sounds like there's some awesome machinery in your collection!!! Start a thread if you like in the Other Sweet Rides section if you want, I'm sure the other guys are as keen as me to see them.
Be nice for you to get that HQ van mate, Sandman might be a bit hard to come by now but base model Qeys still pop up for sale.

Hi guys, James here, most of you probably know me and some of you may not, for those who don't i own Bad Company and XX308 (yes the real one) lol. I have heard about the thread and had a bit of a read about it and i can asure you all it is the real deal. Hopefully i will be welcomed by all and i hope to share some knowledge from the van scene and learn some too. You have a good site here with lots of info by the look of it. I look forward to meeting some new friends here also.

Hi everyone , John here. I am a 70,s vanner and owned and built Time Lapse a H D/R with a HJ Caprice front and Brougham tail lights. She was a show van and a daily driver too, sadly missed as it is no longer around. I was also a founding member of the original East Coast Van Club, Sydney. The Majestic Vanners site is great I feel welcomed by all, Every one is helpful and I hope to contribute when and where I can. I am married and have, 1 Son, 1 dog , live on the sunshine coast near Noosa and unfortunately I am Vanless. Vans owned in the past 1/ F.B. 2/ HD-R.. Time lapse. 3/ 77 corolla. 4/ 93 hiace. Hi Guys,

My name is Alan, I live in Maryborough QLD.
I just joined up after recently purchasing a Barbados green HQ belmont windowless van.
It is a six cylinder, three on the tree with factory buckets and very unmollested original condition.
I am stripping it at the moment for a ground up rebuild, which will include an EFI 496, turbo400 and 9 inch diff.The body is in excellent condition with almost no structural rust.
The motor is almost done and th400 is in transport from the US and i hope to have it done by the end of the year.

I'm sure you'll find, as I have, that they're a mighty friendly bunch of chaps here - and helpful as well.

It's especially nice to have another Barbados Green HQ among us.

I also own a Barbados Green HQ van, whose short story goes like this.

1. On 23 Mar 1974 I placed an order for the van with $100 deposit.
2. On 2 Sep 1974, I took delivery of the van for $3,511, 6 months after order placed.
3. On 10 Jan 1984, I traded the van in Maryborough (Vic) for $1500, a bit more the 9 years after I bought it.
4. On 4 Dec 2010, Located the van (still in Maryborough), 27 years after I sold it!
5. On 26 Feb 2011, Purchased (for $3,000) and retrieved the van, 3 months after locating it.

You can get the whole story in the "My Faithful HQ Panel Van" thread in the "Your Van" and "Your Project" Topics of this forum.
Judging by the "fire-breather" you're fitting in your engine bay, you and I will have the Largest and Smallest blocks fitted to an HQ Van, respectively.

its gonna be my project, i've wanted one since Dad sold his about 10 years ago. He had a Hj show van and thats the main inspiration why i want one, i love these things!

Hello everyone!
Im Rob. Im in Melbourne and have recently purchased myself a HX Sandman that im looking foward to getting back on the road. Havent played around with HQ - WB cars for about 8 years now but did have quite a few when was living back up in Qld. Still have a couple of utes up there in a mates shed and sold a windowless Sandman just before i left which wasnt the best decision ive made! Anyway am looking foward to getting back into it and hearing that V8 rumble again!

Hi everyone, I'm not sure if I did this when i signed up a couple of months ago. So here I go
My name is Ashley, I'm 21 live in Donnybrook, WA and work FIFO. I've wanted a van since I was able to drive, got talked out of it by my folks and got an XG ute instead. Then after I finished my P plates I upgraded to a more modern BA XR8 ute. I still wanted a van though. After my mate scored a XB pano it fanned the flame and I began looking for a van myself. Stroke of luck later andni was driving home in an XC Sundowner. My boss who dropped me off to pick it up says it's in the best condition for an XC that he's seen for a while so I'm really happy. However it does need some workto get it up to scratch. But that comes in my future posts.
Still I'm glad I found this site and will recommend it to my mate with his XB.

Great to have you on here Ashley, I'm sure the other Ford guys are rapped there's another blue oval van project to look at too! Hope you enjoy your time with us and learn some useful stuff and make some new friends.

Howdy from accoss the ditch.
Have been peeping in now and again and thought I would join in.We live in the top if the South(NZ)and own a few bits if automotive movers,An HDT Calais sport wagon,A 76 Kingswood panel van,4 speed 5 litre with a GTS gash oringial push button radio.And up to a week ago it still had the origial X ply under the back,She still wears her rostyle rims as well as windowless.Other car is a 75 GTO which I am restoring for our wee girl for her first car.Also have an 2008 hulux 4x4 plus an astra sport.
The panel van we brought last year and I will do a full resto on her(not that she needs it)But she is deville blue and will be changed to lime green.We will slightly customise this van as the HDT is restored back to better than new condition.The GTO will bae as new also when finished.So the van will be one that we can change slightlyShe is sitting a bit lower now as I have replaced all the suspention
