Shane/Shano here, first fell in love with vans at the age of five. The boys who lived across the road had a sweet HQ with the works; murals, sidepipes, TV, stereo and pubic interior. They were cool enough to let me sit in the back in the afternoons and take me for drives around the block, show me what a burnout was and how chicks dug it.

Years later, as a teenager, my stepfather bought an HX van (well, actually swapped my saxophone for the van) and I spent my afternoons lying in the back of that dreaming about what I would do to it if it was mine, the places I could surf and the chicks I could pick up.

Apparently he had plans for it too... until this point he drove mainly H series utes and his idiot mate told how a brilliant panelbeater mate of his was chopping vans and turning them into utes. Genius.

Despite my pleas the old HX met the fate of many back then and had the fun removed from it. The ute eventually became mine but it wasn't that car I used to waste my afternoons in.

Like many of us, I still held onto that dream of van ownership and now own the van you see in my profile. She's my daily drive, coastal accommodation and thing that makes me smile everywhere I drive. It carries my boards with ease and it scored me the hot chick.

It has all the bits I ever wanted in my van and we are currently on that mission to restore her to her former glory. If I could just stop driving it.

That's when I came across Majestics, not realising that I wasn't the only panel van tragic out there, this eventually reunited me with an old friend who is very active in the van scene and inspired a bunch of us with his recent van build.

Since then I've made friends with some like minded folk and had the pleasure of meeting some of the boys at the 2013 Van Nats and have the cruise of all cruises.

The girlfriend has caught van fever and recently bought a windowless HX and iscoming up with her own plans for a dream van. Turns out her old man was a vanner from back in the day and has some pretty cool snaps of his decked out HJ from back in the day.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, I am guessing you have been around here a bit but it is great when people start to contribute to the forum as well.

It was great to be part of the cruise of cruises with you, I have a lot of footage of the rear of your van as I followed you to Ricks Diner that day!   

Good to have you on here, I hope to catch up with you guys again one day and I look forward to seeing your girlfriends van come together.

My name is Dickie and I am from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. My first car when I was 18 was a 1981 WB Panel Van,202, 3 on the tree with a Statesman Front which unfortunately was stacked by a 'mate' when I was 20.
I just purchase a 1983 WB Van, 308 auto also with a Statement Front this weekend. You couldn't get the smile off my face for the hour it took me to get it back home.
I would like to get involved with like mind people, hence why I am posting here. Any advice on club meets or organised gathering would be appreciated. I look forward to following the forum and picking peoples brains for advice for my Van.

Hello Dicki and welcome to majestics mate,The VIC guys alway's have something going on but over winter they become a bit quiet but you can guarentee they will have a couple of runs planned and a great crew to be with,our next big event is our Van-in that is held at the begining of October at Albury and after that the guys do the VIC state titles, in NSW we have the Vanning Legends Reuinion in November,I can imagine that smile from ear to ear all the best with the new ride mate.

Good old Sky High. Pretty sure you have to pay to get into the car park now. I'm lucky to have a good run up the mountain on my doorstep. Makes it easy to go for a drive.

Hi new to the forum recently purchased hq panel van white column manual bench seat needs attention but good base for custom or resto own hq coupe cv8 Munro and daily drive mostly ve commodore work within the automotive industry many years including over 10 years at Gmh fisher mans bend have restored a couple of hq 350 coupes and a couple of other small projects looking to learn more about hq panel vans so would like to get involved in the future on resto paint panel general info etc, looking for a set of 15inch 10 spoke roh wheels also anyone who may have info on the superchicken panel van decals is anyone making them, would also like to speak with Sam midgley about his work at holden and with peter arcadipane, cheers Steve 0403259031

Hi toni I will post some more images later on today its a 6cylinder base model column manual matching numbers antique saddle brown trim 9/72 built melbourne built Adelaide stamp on scuttle panel glacier white very good clean roof has rust in lower rear qtrs both sides need upper door tailgate complete with the rods and lock etc. Tailgate ok missing some items no engine or gearbox want to build a replica superchicken great white truck. Looking for 15 inch 10spoke roh wheels very hard to find.
Also is anyone selling a nos set of decals or going to remake them. There is alot of talk of making them but no one has yet. Also do you know if sam midgley is a forum member. Just wanted to talk to him about a few things. Can you possibly get me a contact number. .cheers steve 0403259031

By the sound of it you have a good starting point Steve,as for the super chicken van that will look cool I don't know of anyone doing the vinyl chook but I am sure their is someone out there that will,I cannot heplyou with Sam mate but Rob Burns the Zodiac might be able to.
