Re: Introduce yourself Here!
G'day Everyone.
I'm Richard (The Ski Man) from Adelaide, I'm a Holden guy (but not one-eyed) and I've been involved in vanning since my first car some 16ish years ago.
I attended Nat's at Geelong, Philip Island and Perth, so many of you have probably seen me around.
I was a founding member of the Van Council of South Australia when it officially started in 2001, became club president in 2010 and stayed with the club until it informally wrapped up in 2011 due to the number of active members dropping severely.
My vanning story starts with my fathers recommendation to get a van - I first owned a Chamois HJ windowed van, 308 on gas and it was a fine first automobile until inevitably I was 'distracted' behind the wheel (checking out a lass) and rear ended the guy in front of me which saw the end of that particular van. It wasn't until I had done more research on Sandmans that I realised I'd had a genuine HJ sandman - I didn't know that there were two decal sets.
A year later and much wiser to the caper I came across a reasonable HZ which ticked all the sandman boxes, so it became my pride and joy! I did a few modifications (in hindsight - I shouldn't have) And I couldn't have asked for a better car to have had through my late teens and early twenties! I ended up doing silly things one evening which forced me to take the van (and myself) off the streets for a while, but my passion remained strong.
in 2010 I'd finally found myself in a position to rebuild the car into a tidy streeter, being an original sandman I wanted to keep the authenticity but wanted to lightly modify the car to give it better street appeal. This is the car I maintain today and will keep as a family weekend vehicle, yep, I'm fitting rear seats for my kids so I don't need to sell the van.
I've recently caught up with some MV-ers here in SA and am looking forward to great vanning times well into the future!
I also have a facebook page for the Van, its located at: facebook.com/skimansvan

Re: Introduce yourself Here!
Hi, I am new to the forum and would like to introduce myself (new to any forum, so please be patient). I am in the later side of 40 and live just outside of Canberra near Queanbeyan. I have owned several vans over the years – all being of the blue oval variety. I currently have an XB which I bought about 15 years ago. It was used as a daily driver for the first couple of years and then due to work, family and life in general, it just sat there. When it turned 30 I put it on Historic Rego for a year but only used it 2 or 3 times and it got parked again. Now that the family almost all grown up I seem to have found a little more time and decided to drag it out after 10 years gathering dust.
Time has not been that kind to it over the years and the paint and body have suffered, but am keen to just get out and use it. It still needs some work in order to pass rego but nothing major.
Hope to catch up soon and thanks for having me.
Neal

Re: Introduce yourself Here!
Very nice van Neal,
I'm a Holden man but still gotta love the 70's vans of any make. I must admit there is a soft spot for XB's though.
Cheers Mark

Yeah, love the blue colour.
what's it like inside and what engine/gearbox combo?
p.s, you've got about 3 weeks to wash it and bring it to the van-in.

Re: Introduce yourself Here!
Thanks for the warm welcomes, it so good to see the van scene is still alive and well. The XB is a still a matching number van.
It is factory Falcon 500 GS with the following:
Engine K - 351
Trans B – Cruisomatic T Bar
Paint V – Apollo Blue
Interior W – white
I am not exactly sure what the difference between the Falcon van and a Falcon 500 van, I think all 500’s came standard with side windows but not sure about anything else. As I am sure you may be aware the Ford number system back then was great and made it very easy to identify different models. Ford are also very willing to help and can provide factory option list and dealer code. I am not too sure on the history of the van other than it originally went to a Ford internal promotional dealer code - Ford have not been able to provide much more detail than that.
Would love to come to the Van-In, but heading to Bathurst on 8th for the races, defiantly in for the next one and planning for the 2016 Van Nats already.
