Re: Introduce yourself Here!
too right. They wernt a major thing for Holden, just a cheap publicity exercise to capture a youth market. It was the one time in history where the car companies, youth and everyone was listening to what the others were sayingf and responded accordingly. It was a time that we wont see occur again!

Welcome Aboard!
Great to see that you have found your way onto our Site and decided to become part of it.
You and I have already corresponded via email. Your Sandman has very unusual VIN Stampings as we discussed and certainly appears to make it unique as HQ and HJ Panel Vans were only ever produced as Commercial Vehicles under the Belmont Code "M". Kingswoods "N" Code were only available in the Utility.
All Sandmans were optioned up Commercial/Belmont Vans and carried the "M" Code.
I look forward to seeing some Pics and Info on your Ute Build and the Van Project.
At this point in time only www.majesticvanners.com Stickers are available to Forum User/Members. Here's a Link: Stickers
There is nothing like being misquoted and taken out of context, but I do understand that there may have been some ambiguity. I am specifically referring to HQ's and HJ's as stated in the previous sentence.

Hi everyone, Im Trish (it has to be said, Karl's wife)
Yay, ive signed up. If you asked Karl, he would say i dont own a van. But i call it ours.
We've had some quite memorable moments in our van. It started out with a broken heart, having a stolen vk calais delivered home as a rolling shell, using the engine to go into the van Karl found, using every sunday for a year working on it. To a 2 month road trip up the east coast of Australia, having the time of our lives. ending with Karl proposing to me. To the day after our wedding, thinking we hid the van well, to finding it covered in toilet paper, ballons & confetti.
Then finding the vanning community, meeting like-minded people, sharing our stories, checking out each others vans, and making new friends.
Ive had the pleasure of attending the van in, and meeting some of you, having the greatest time and are still talking about it now. We are looking forward to new meets, meeting more people and seeing more vans.

Hi Everyone,
I used to be the very proud owner of one of the very first Absinth Yellow HX Sandman’s sold in western Sydney (Parramatta) back in 1976, just after I first started my apprenticeship.
I originally saw a story in a car magazine at the time comparing the then HJ Sandman to the old MG TC, insinuating that it was the modern day equivalent of the old MG for popularity in the 1970's.
I had just come back from a holiday to the Northern Territory with my dad, and thought then it would be great to have a Sandman to travel around the country in.
Luckily for me, this was just on the cusp of the panelvan boom of the mid 1970’s and all the fringe benefits that went with it.
When I went to look around various dealerships, I found what was to become my HX Sandman sitting in Hillsdons Holden showroom in Parramatta, and I then soon became a very poor apprentice for 4 years paying back the bank.
Sadly, after many years of fun and memories it was sold in 1989, and I still dream about it today.
If anyone has any questions about original condition HX vans I am only too willing to share any memories with you all.
I will try and get my computer fixed soon, so I can post some old photo's for everyone to see.
I hope to hear from you all soon and thanks again for your time.

Re: Introduce yourself Here!
Hey everyone, My names Shane i just joined the site and thought id introduce myself. Ive loved old holdens since i was a kid and a Hz panelvan was always one of the dreams. Started off with the 78 kingswood ute, and just over six months ago i found a 78 sandman for sale and fell in love. Shes been named Sandstorm and ive got a lot of plans for customization once i get enough cash together. Thanks.

Hi
Hi
I'm Rick,
I used to have a windowless Flamenco red HZ Van, which has gone to the van gods.
Since then I have made a start on a HT windowless. I will put up some pics in the project page
Cheers

Does half a van count?
Gday guys my names tony and im from sunny queensland and i own half a van. Wait...what?. Well the story behind my hq is that it used to be a panelvan but was converted to a ute by the previous owner. Im a tow truck driver and I.T technician/Web programmer. Mixed professions but thats only the tip of the list but thats another story. My weekends are currently being taken up by my labour of love, my 1973 hq panelvan...ute....panelute I will add pics in the project section. looking forward to getting to know more enthusiasts.
Cheers

Re: Introduce yourself Here!
Okay, I admit it, I used to have an HG ute but the shell was beyond saving so I threw all the mechanicals into a Volvo as a daily driver for my wife (350 Chev on straight LPG, turbo 350, Ford 9" diff).
I'm a NSW RMS "Licensed Certifier", formerly known as an "Engineering Signatory". Some bloke with an Escort panel van (ooh, look up at the top of the page, that's the one ) suggested I come along here and ask questions that I can't find answers for anywhere else.
